St. John’s United is hiring a Part-time Bookkeeper beginning January 2022

Position Overview:

St. John’s United Church is seeking a part-time bookkeeper who is experienced with non-profit bookkeeping and general accounting principles. This position requires approximately 5-10 hours per month, or 100 hours per year with a greater number of hours required at year end and for the charity return. This is a flexible position; there is a preference for the bookkeeper to be available one day per month in St. John’s United Church office. This position reports to the Ministry & Personnel Committee and works closely with the Finance Committee. It is expected that the Finance Committee and the Bookkeeper will meet on a monthly basis; or more often as needed, likely at the beginning of the hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The bookkeeperʼs main responsibility is to ensure the accuracy of St. John’s books. Ongoing duties include working with the Finance Committee on accounts payable and accounts receivable (including creating invoices); creating monthly financial statements; processing payroll for non-ministry personnel; and all monthly reconciliations. They will also be the main liaison with CRA; prepare the charity returns and HST refund.

Qualifications:

The bookkeeper candidate should have a minimum of 2 years experience, preferably with a non-profit organization. The preferred candidate will also possess a knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles both standard and non-profit. The preferred candidate will have some experience administering payroll, statutory holiday pay and have a good working knowledge of MS Excel 365.
